Charlbury

The Town and small parish of Charlbury is located in the valley of the river Evenlode. The town is about 15 miles north west of Oxford. It is also about 5 miles north of Witney on the edge of the Wychwood forest. Cornbury Park occupies part of the old forest just south west of Charlbury.

Charlbury has a railway station which serves London and Oxford to the east and Hereford and Worcester to the west. Isambard Kingdom Brunel  is known to have had a hand in the design of the station.

The church  (pictured on the left) is the Church of St. Mary the Virgin and connected with the 7th century Bishop of Mercia, St. Dioma. From the 11th century the church was connected with Eynsham Abbey until Henry Vlll's dissolution of the monasteries.

Charlbury Museum was opened in 1962 and is run by the Charlbury Society.
